Gas Guage for cub

Postby JimCub48 » Wed Nov 22, 2017 11:31 am

Has anyone tried to shorten a vented fuel gauge cap that was made for IH tractors and are now being reproduced (Steiner Tractor) sells them. The shortest one they carry is 13 inch over all. The cap will fit a cub but the length of the gauge is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long, Is it possible to cut the bottom off and shorten the length of the gauge and weld back together to make it work for the cub.

It's possible, but since most of the floating gas gauges capture a twisted center rod, by cutting off the bottom 1-1/2", the needle may not point to "E" (empty) when the float bottoms out. You would have to re-twist the center rod to get a smooth travel between "E" and "F".

Here is Stanton's How To. I hope I got the pix in the right order.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Now that is cool. How did he make the gauge readout itself?

I designed the face, then had it copied off onto a piece of gasoline/oil resistant paper at Office Max or one of those copier stores.
