Rebuilding the motor on one of 48s and while I got the clutch took off how do I check to see if the clutch disc is still good? If it needs replaced it won't ever be easier.

As far as I know, if it still has plenty of material and it isn't glazed over, it's fine.

Hi,
The lining has to have a little thickness above the rivets. They do not have a lot of material above the rivets even when new.
Below is a pic from TM Tractor, theirs has a cut pattern in the lining, the older lining I have seen was a flat style. You can see the thickness above the rivets in the pic.
The 4 rivets that are shinier are holding on the lining on the side of the disc visible in the pic, the other 4 rivets are holding on the lining on the other side of the disc. :)

Found the ones I took out of both our Cubs. One was worse than the other when I replaced them. The pictures show the difference in thickness. Not sure what a new one measures (I’m thinking 5/16” .3125”) these measure .284” and .249”. If it were mine and I was going through the exspense of rebuilding the engine and I could afford to do so, I would replace the clutch while it’s apart just so you know what you have when done.
