I had every bolt, nut, gear, and pin apart and then I wire brushed, cleaned and painted the runner. The planter was also completely disassembled, wire brushed, and cleaned, but I ran out of time to paint it. When I got the runner planter it was completely brown with rust and dirt. Fortunately, there was more dirt than rust as I found a lot of the original blue paint while wire bushing. I have videos on youtube using the runner/planter as well as some new hillers I bought, and also side dressing the corn I planted with the planter. If you are interested you can view them:
