AC IB on Stand-By

ACIBResized#2.JPG

The 1956 Allis Chalmers is dressed up and eagerly awaiting the snow this weekend with my Industiral model B. No action so far this year. Tire chains are in place (not shown here) and do a great job with the original turf tires and wheel weights. No loaded tires for me. It's 12 volt with electronic ignition and starts like switching on a light.

Thanks, men. Been plowing with the IB for 25 years, and yes, it moves snow with the 6 ft. AC plow. Restored in 2017 and added a custom hard-line for the hydraulics. It also has the correct under-hood muffler which made it practical for its intended use but not much good for joy riding because exhaust can get in one's face. That's the same reason I put a tall straight pipe on my Cub's exhaust and the fumes are no issue.

We received a bit of snow yesterday but not enough to mess with. I'll be taking the blankets off the machine for a good workout when the winter storm passes through. I usually wait for about 6 inches of snow to fall before heading out. In third gear (top gear) it'll roll the snow, which is necessary to keep a wide path clear. When the neighbor's ATV can't handle a large snowfall, I'll push the piles farther off the drives so we have room for more.

Snow's moving in and should be a blast tomorrow.

Thanks Indy61 for fixing the link to the video.

Barebones, yesterday afternoon, a Utube video of your tractor popped up. It was at a tractor show shortly after the restoration work.

That's a very nice beefy tractor. Good luck. Stay safe.

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, it hugs the ground like a 240-pound fullback. Straight front axle and rear finals are turned 90 degrees. Torque tube is shorter than its brother the model B.

Gary, I had it at the Mid-Michigan Old Gas Tractor Association (MMOGTA) show this past August and did a walk-around video. The restoration was done in 2017 but I touched up some of the cast after a minor repair and painted the plow, which sits outside year round.

One thing that has bothered me about it is the belt pulley PTO shaft. After replacing the oil seal a few months ago, I came up with an idea to solve the dangerous condition of the open PTO when the hydraulics are activated: a 3-inch rubber coupler for PVC pipe and a 3" cap with hose clamps on each end - one to attach the cover to the cast iron and the other to hold the cap in place. I painted the cap the same color as the tractor and the cover looks like it belongs there. 'Now I can step over the final drive axel without fear of the unthinkable.

Looking out the window now and the white stuff has begun to descend and expected to do so into tomorrow. And, then some more.

Wasn't much to plow but glad I shaved off the mush before it froze.
