Hi all!
It's been a minute since I've been on the forum, so I thought it best to reintroduce myself. I'm still alive and kicking out here in Pittsburgh, PA.
Most of you probably knew me as WisconsinCubMan since I lived in Wisconsin when I got my first cub of my own, Merlin Cub. I moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and thus the moniker, WisconsinCubMan didn't make much sense anymore. My last name is Hengelsberg, and many people call me Hengy for short, so I just shortened my handle to Hengy.
For those of you who remember Merlin (the man AND the 1949 Cub which bears his name), Merlin Cub is still running and doing all of the things. I restored him with MAJOR help from this forum back in the early 2000's and he lived a life of ease in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He got a new coat of paint and just about every system on him was torn apart, rebuilt, resealed and reassembled. He was never a trailer queen, but he sure looked better than when I got him. His only real work was plowing snow in my alley in La Crosse...that is until we moved back to Pittsburgh.
We moved east in 2012, and Merlin came with us along with a younger cousin, Lewis, a 1955 Cub. Lewis was also supposed to be restored, but alas, he has not been. Once we moved back to PA, Merlin began a second life as a mowing tractor. We moved back to the family homestead, and he regularly mowed 2 acres of my own grass every week and a 4-5 acre field every other week. He was back to working, and work he does! He is now back in his working clothes as the paint has faded and some of the seals are leaking again. He is grimy and dirty, but I love that part of him. He starts RIGHT away every time I ask him to. I get joy just about every time I climb aboard.
Thanks to the help of this forum all of those years ago, I learned the insides and outs of Merlin and can fix any little ailment that comes along with him. I do miss some of the great times that I've had on this forum, and now that I remember my login, I hope to become an active participant again.
Thanks for reading and listening.
See you all soon.
Mike in Pittsburgh, PA
