OMG, What did I do?

Postby Zorro » Wed Oct 01, 2014 8:50 pm

I've always had a passing interest in tractors. Whenever I saw one, I couldn't help but look at it and try to imagine owning one. Why though, would anyone in their right mind buy one if they did not live on a farm? Well, earlier this year I helped a friend with about 20 pines that he had cut down, and this friend has a Ford Jubilee. Well, it must have been the gleam in my eyes when I ogled that Ford that caused my friend to ask me if I wanted to do the tractor work that was needed to clear those trees. My only tractor experience up until then was running a loader at a concrete plant 40 or so years ago. Needless to say, moving those logs around was much more fun than dumping sand and gravel into the hoppers at the concrete plant.
It was then that it dawned on me that I have trees around my property too, and I even have an unpaved road which needs to be graded occasionally. Okay, I decided that a tractor would be a great investment for me after all, farm or no farm. I looked at several tractors until I finally found a 1950 Cub with a grader blade and a loader bucket. The tractor is a little rough around the edges, but that is why they make wrenches.

Paul,
Welcome to the forum.
If you can make it next weekend, there is a CubFest just over the Massachusetts border in Valatie, NY.
Great opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts and learn about Cubs.

The s/n is: 115513 The guy who I bought it from thought it was a 1949, but looking at the chart, it is a 1950.

You see that the previous owner was a real hacker by the way the alternator was stuck on. I have some work ahead of me.

I thought the pic was flipped at first when I saw the alternator on the left side and the loader bracket resembled a steering shaft until I noticed the exhaust was right.

Welcome to the forum.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Congrats on the purchase, when you get a chance can you look around the loader and see if there is anything that would identify the manufacturer and/or the model number please. There are several of us on the board that have the same loader but we do not know who made them.

I to do not have a farm, but my cubs come in very handy throughout the year, I love to plow my 400 foot driveway when it snows and I do a neighbors 2 driveways also.
