Pulled the trigger on a Super A

Postby TraumaOne » Mon May 06, 2019 12:05 pm

Picked this up late last night, looking forward to learning more about it and getting some seat time. It's a working tractor and will remain that way. There are a few things I will be returning to standard configuration though. These pics are of the Tractor during pickup.

The last pic (serial number) makes me think this might just be an A that was outfitted with Hydraulics, not sure.

Anyhow, excited to bring it home.

It could be the seat support was replaced, along with the data plate. Compare the casting numbers of the various parts to get an idea of year and compare.

Congrats! Looks like a good one! :hattip:

Great snag! Nice looking tractor. The blade is kind of a Frankenstein but should get the job done.

Good looking tractor! Looks like it might be a bit of a Heinz 57---I see a plain A front axle serial number, and I swear that reminds me of Super A-1 (0ne) sheet metal--gas tank is sitting high over the hyd. box like a Super A-1. As Dale said you can look at casting codes to get a better idea of what it's background is.

I've already got them, I had the original owner throw those in for me as well. It's main job will be snow removal in the winter so I knew I would need them. I need to find a set of snow plow shoes for it though. Any idea on where I could source those? Would these work?

Sent him a PM and apparently his shoes are for Cub plows. I'm not completely sure if my plow is off a cub or not. Is there a way to identify if it's a SA plow or Cub plow?

Thanks in advance,

The part # for the Cub shoe is 651 244 R1. If you can find a parts manual for the SA blade, you could see if it's the same part.

Different part number. Measure the width of your blade (excluding the homemade extensions). If it is 54" it is Cub, 60" it is Super A. If it turns out to be a Super A blade, get measurements of the shoe mounting holes in the Cub and A blades to see if the Cub shoe can be used. I'd expect the A shoe to be bigger in all directions, but the Cub shoe may be usable.

Thanks guys, I plan on doing exactly that when I get home from work today. I suspect that it is a 54" blade but I'll confirm that today. Also, the SA shoes are very similar in part number for reference:

Cub: 651244R1
SA: 651344R1

Thanks,

Congrats on the Super A. There are some manuals on the PDF server available for free download, if you didn't already know.

Let us know if we can help.

Thank you! I've got a short list of things I need to pickup for it, but nothing crazy.

Confirmed, 54" right on the nose. I'll get back in touch with him to get those shoes ordered.

I really appreciate the help! :tractor:
