1977 International 140 rear tire size

Hello,

I seek wisdom before spending money
I have a 140 that had a factory rim on the right side (9x24) and non factor on the left side (10x24).....needless to say, my gal swayed to left with 12.2x24 tires.
I have secured a 9x24 rim for the left and want to purchase new tires. Fronts are 5-15.0's.

I don't like the 12.2 tires, but thought the 9.5's would be a little too small, and want to go with 11.2 x 24..........what do you guys think?

Any/all feedback is appreciated.
My little 140 is primarily for gardening under 2 acres with cultivators, and I do some finish mowing after I pull the cultivators with a Woods L59, I do have some hills to be respected on my 10 acres here in N. East TN.

As for original equipment, early 140s had regular equipment as 9-24 (became 9.5) with 10-24 (became 11.2) as an option. Later ones like yours had 11.2-24 as regular equipment with 9.5 available. Your 9-24 rim was matched up with the 10 and 11.2 sizes. But a 9-24 rim is okay with 9.5 tires so your matching pair of original rims are okay either way.

Your choice of tire size should be influenced by your use for the tractor. 11.2 tires generally improve the performance on any of the offset Farmalls, big help for field work, or plowing snow, or any other task that needs traction for maximum drawbar pull. The downside is they speed the tractor up. 9-24 has a rolling radius of 18.3 while 10-24 is 19.8. The added speed will have some effect on how it handles the rotary mower. It may also be less desirable while cultivating your garden. The bigger tires also will make things tighter between garden rows.

If you want to pay attention to appearance, 11.2s probably look better. But if your primary consideration is cultivating the garden, I'd give the 9.5s serious consideration.

I have 9.5-24 on my 51 Super A and 11.2-24 on my 48. Here you can kind of see the size difference. The 11.2s are BKTs which I just put on this year.

I have 9.5 turf on my 130 and 9.5 ag on a 140 and 11.2 on a 140. I think they both have advantages. I think you have to think about the front wheels. on mine the front wheels are different on the 11.2 rears. I think they are 16s maybe. you may want to look at the parts manual.
