Stalled plow project restart
A couple years ago I started assembling parts to install a power angle on my SA’s snowplow. I got stalled on this and a lot of other projects due to health issues but I’m still here and doing better so I’m pushing to finish things left undone.
This tractor has the somewhat rare option of additional hydraulic control valve that was used to raise/lower a following plow. It’s perfect to angle a snow blade with. Hopping on and off the tractor wears me down and it’d really help. I have the ram and the mounts to weld onto the plow frame once I decide where I want them .
Haven’t bought the hoses yet because I want to mock it up first to get a measurement on length.
One quick question…
When I mount the ram on the frame to achieve full angle left to right I’m assuming I don’t want to totally bottom or fully extend the ram at full angle, am I right ?
Here’s some links to pics taken last year . This tractor is a bear moving heavy snow.

Re: Stalled plow project restart
Fully extending or retracting is not an issue provided the directional valve (or somewhere in the circuit) is equipped with a relief valve.

It’s a IH factory valve, same one that was used on the Super C that followed so I’d assume theres a relief valve. I’ve operated the valve with nothing attached and you can hear it functioning.

If the A & B ports are both capped and you actuate the valve with the tractor running and it doesn't stall the engine then it must have a relief built into it, assuming it has pressure plumbed to the P & T ports. If that's the case, you should be good to go!

Hey Mike, glad to hear from you...your rear weights on the drawbar look great...similar to my set up but I only have 1 weight.

Check out the link below for how I did the same last year:
Pictures of my Super A/A60 Power angle modifications
Not sure why I can't get the link set up, however if you do a search on the above you should locate it. It works great!

Re: Stalled plow project restart
Thanks Will, I’ll be doing it in a very similar way but using the factory valve. I’ve got all my parts together so I’ll be getting it together this week .
I purchased a cylinder with a 10” stroke. I measured it out and it looks like it gonna be close. Might have been better off with 12”. We’ll see.
I figure to mount the ram on the right side so it’s directly in my line of sight plus the control valve is located on the right side so it’s easier.
Here is a diagram of the assembly I have…
https://flic.kr/p/2ksxFwZ
Mine will have the hoses running down and to the front from the valve.
I’d post pics but fliker isn’t as easy to work with as it once was . Got to figure out another way to post pics.

Hi John good to hear from you too. Hope retirement is treating you well. Bet you don’t miss that crazy commute
The bulk of the weight is on the axles and I figured the cub weights wouldn’t be much more that a large implement hanging off the bar but it definitely helps with traction.
One other thing I’m going to do after this is done is to put more lights on the tractor. It’s go an amber flashing light in the back and LEDs up front but I’ve had some close calls at the road. People drive really bad here when it snows. I think I’ve got to make this look like a UFO to keep safe sometimes .

Re: Stalled plow project restart
This is the optional remote auxiliary control valve I have.
It’s somewhat rare for a Super A and very difficult to find parts for.
One question I have now, once this is all attached, goes hooked to the ram will the lines purge the air by operating the valve ? I’m sure I’ll be adding fluid as I go.

You will purge the air out as you operate the valve. What I did was pre-filled the cylinder and the hoses before screwing the quick disconnects on the hoses. I didn't even have to add any hydraulic fluid to the Touch Control unit afterward.

Myself, I prefer to plow snow after dark due to the crazy traffic on our road. After dark there's less traffic and the cars are more easily seen since they have their headlights on. I'll plow snow in the daylight if the weather is real clear and there's good visibility providing traffic isn't to hectic. But even then, you need to be very careful since passing cars can make the snow swirl and hide on coming cars. Again, at night even with the swirling snow you can easily see headlights through the snow making it much safer for me to be out pushing snow when I have to be out on the road.
