Positioning light switch decal

I have been tuning up the paint on the forward tins from the grill (lots of effort to get that straightened) on the tractor back to the dash panel. I have new decals and can't seem to find a good reference (original pix would be the best) for the light switch positions/decal location. I have seen it 2 ways for the three position light switch, either 9 to 12 or 10:30 to 1:30 for the off-dim-bright positions. Any one have a reference photo?

I assume we are talking about a Super A. I think it should be close to a 9 to 12 position. I suggest having the switch installed and the knob on the switch so that with the switch in the "B" position the pointer is as close as possible to straight up. (I think your knob will have 6 different positions it can be installed.) Click the switch to the middle (D) position. Place the decal so the "D" is in line with the knob pointer. In theory, all positions should line up. But aligning the middle one gets everything closest. Position the decal away/closer so the arcs look about right. That should be at about 9/16 away from the knob.

You could look in the Super A operator's manual, and see if there is a picture of where the decal is.
The only Super A operator's manual in Rudi's Manuals shows the older 4 position switch.

You can go to the Quick links PDF Manuals and find a later manual with the 3-position switch. The switch/decal is shown on page 44 (at 9 to 12). It also shows the 4-position switch on page 48 (at 10:30 to 1:30).

I didn't know the Super A operator's manual in Quick links is newer than the manual in Rudi's Manuals.
I wasn't doubting what you said above Jim, he asked for a reference photo, so I thought of looking in the operator's manual.

I didn't know there was a later one there either. The fact you said there was a 4-position decal showing in Rudi's Manuals prompted me to see if there was a later style in the PDF manuals. I believe that Rudi's Manuals are frozen with the content that was on Rudi's computer when the manuals were copied over. The PDF Manuals continue to get additions over time.

From Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide. This confirms 9-12 placement, regardless of if it's the O-D-B or L-H-D-B switch.

Interesting what the diagrams in that book show for various models. The 9/16 spacing is mentioned on some. The pointer alignment with the letters is mentioned on some. Those are both items you would expat to apply to all. Where they are clocked seems to have never been spelled out, although it is usually fairly clear in the diagrams. Most of them either have "D" or "B" at 12 o'clock.

In spite of the diagram above, I'm sure I recall many early style Super As with "D" at 12 o'clock (10:30 to 1:30 positioning). Maybe there was an earlier Super A diagram showing that position that Guy didn't find for his book. The Cub diagram clearly shows "D" at 12 o'clock. Maybe when they started making Super As they just did what they had been doing with Cubs.

I am doing a "rolling" repaint on my Super A and I like to be as correct as reasonably possible. I did see your post about the Super A decal having a red vs white background. I will live with the white background.

Below is the page from the older Super A operator's manual I was talking about above, showing the older 4 position charge and light switch. It shows the decal being over the knob, not partly to the side, like the newer 3 position switch pic is.
If you can enlarge the pic big enough, it can be seen. It is in the lower left pic.

I have applied the decals from the decal set from Steiner, however, there are 3 decals not shown in the posts by Super A above. The decals not yet applied are:
A small rectangular H shift pattern
A medium sized "Oil Level" decal which I assume goes on the left side of the oil pan
A very large, 5" x 5" caution decal referencing multiple caution items.

I am experiencing posting of images problems or I would have posted the images. If you google Super A decals multiple pictures including Steiner will pop up.
