international ai clutch adjustment
I have a 1945 international ai and was wondering if anybody knows how to adjust the clutch or linkage. My problem is when you let the clutch out the clutch catches right at the end and grinds a little. I believe that the clutch or clutch linkage is the problem. if anyone thinks the problem is somewhere else please let me know.

Re: international ai clutch adjustment
As the clutch wears, you gradually loose clutch free play and it needs to be adjusted back to the proper amount. That sounds like your problem. Look up at the bottom of the bell housing (torque tube). At the very rear, next to the clutch pedal, you will find an opening. The clutch linkage is adjusted through that opening. You can see a part (yoke) with the clutch operating rod going through it. The rod has 2 nuts, one forward of and the other behind the yoke. You change the adjustment by turning one nut away from the yoke then tightening the other against the other side of the yoke. Turning the forward one away then tightening the rear one should increase the free play. The correct adjustment is when there is between 1 and 1-1/4 inch of free play, measured at the face of the clutch pedal.
This is explained and illustrated in the Owner's Manual. If you don't have one of them, you should get one and read through it for lubrication and adjustment instructions.
