That is a great photo!! A later model (late 60s early 70s 140) too boot! Too bad the old chain hoist was right in the way. I wonder where this came from and why it's not anywhere on the internet (that I could find using Google)?? Wonder if there are others of him with his 140? Thanks!

Was it in Life Magazine or something like that? I tried the IH archives but didn't come up with anything--then again, I usually have a hard time finding much of anything that I am looking for there--goofy search function or something.

Well.....from LIFE, it says the picture was taken in Nashville in 1969. So that tells me the tractor MIGHT be a 1969 or 1970 model. From the scratched decal, it could be a couple years old.??? Wouldn't it be really neat to know the serial number of it?! Who knows.....one of us on the forum could own it!

I moved this to the 140 forum to preserve all these great informational posts. A lot of history here that is definitely worth keeping :!:

WHY WAS THIS THREAD MOVED :?: :big say what: I started this thread when looking to buy a 140 or a Super A. I realize it has evolved into a discussion, but nonetheless, it is still a WANTED TO BUY thread. Over the last several months there has been created many more specialized subsets to choose from (maybe too many) and it is becoming confusing where a topic should go. But this thread is still what it is no matter which direction it has taken. Additionally, over the last several months I have seen many threads moved due to this confusion. Many times they were moved by someone who didn't take the time to follow the entire thread to determine its proper place. Some seem to be moved just because the moderator could do it. I have not spoken up before and just let it go. But since it is my thread, and I don't agree with the move, I'm speaking up. If the moderators as a group support the move, so be it. I don't own the forum, nor do I have any authority here, but I am a long-time community member and feel I have the right to challenge it. If I'm told to shut up over this, I will. But at least I've had my say. :thanx:

Edit. While previewing this post, I see Rudi has posted with an explanation before he saw my complaint. My opinion stands.

Denny,
On 11/17 you posted
Denny Clayton wrote:The search is over! :{_}: Thanks to all who responded, helped or contacted me on this. . . .

One would reasonably conclude that the post was no longer needed as a "wanted" advertisement. Since it was in an advertising forum, it would be auto-pruned and go away. In fact, had it not been for all the follow up discussion (which had nothing to do with finding you a tractor, but everything to do with interesting pictures of 140s) the thread would be just about ready to go away right now.

Rudi thought that the follow up posts were worth preserving so he moved it to a forum where it would not be auto-pruned. The multiple forum site design is to make it easier to find things on the site, but only helps if things are in the proper forum. If a thread is in an advertising forum, it will go away, losing whatever items of value are in it. Moderators move threads to preserve content or make it easier to find later on. If you are still looking for another tractor, post a new ad in the wanted forum. Based on this thread, anyone would conclude you are done looking.

Just thought about this.....I know in the movie "Walk the Line", Cash was driving an Oliver tractor and ran it in the lake at his Tennessee house. Movies aren't always correct. The incident actually happened, and since the above photo was taken in Nashville; I wonder if the Farmall 140 was the tractor he drove off in the lake, or could it have been the replacement after that had happened?? I wish there was more info on this, as it is very intresteing
