New here and new project
Hey all. Just wanted to say hi. I'm sure I'll be posting a good bit over the next few months
My grandfather had a model a that was at one point fully restored and running (maybe 15yrs ago). When he shut his business now he had no where to put the tractor so it sat in my parents backyard as a lawn ornament for 10yrs or more
Well I decided to take it upon myself to get it running again.
After a long weekend I finally got it in the garage. The exhaust had been uncovered for years and water was everywhere it shouldn't be. I got the head off today and drained all the water. A good bit of water followed by a good bit of oil came out.
Some of the cylinders don't look horrible. One or two are damn rusted.
The engine is seized pretty darn good. I'll let it sit with some PB blaster and mystery oil for a week and see if it does any good. I'm worried the crank may be seized as well. Once I get the pistons moving I'll be checking for cracks in the block as I'm sure some of that water has froze and thawed over the yrs.
Everything else on the tractor seems to operate well and move freely

Re: New here and new project
Thanks all. I had to jet outta town for a few days so I dumped a bottle of marvel mystery oil in the cylinders before I left
I plan on re sleeving the engine with new pistons Hoping eventually the will break free and pop out.
Anyone have a link to an engine manual or something to download or buy?

Here is a link to the Blue Ribbon Service Engine Manual.
http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Blue%20Ribbon%20Service%20Manuals/GSS-1007%20Engine/GSS-1007%20Engine.htm
That manual and many others can be found in the Rudi's manuals link in the top right corner of the forum. Very cool and interesting things there. If you happen to have any implements with your cub, the manual is probably found there too. Have fun!

Re: New here and new project
Bossman, In case you weren't aware of it, the Cub wasn't sleeved. It can be done, but may be more expensive than rebuilding a good used block.

Aren't we talking about a "Farmall A" here? I see a few "Cub" responses that may not be applicable.

Re: New here and new project
My bad. It is an A and not a Cub. I read the forum title and missed what it was in the second sentence.

Same here. Oops. I don't know if A manuals are in the Rudi's link, but you can certainly try!
