130 popping out of 1st gear

Postby howhow1 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 10:33 am

Hello
I took my recently acquired 130 out to do some cultivating/hilling and noticed
it pops out of 1st gear after driving under load for a few minutes
any one have some experience /words of wisdom with troubleshooting/ repairing this ?
I was going to start with removing the top cover and inspecting the ball & springs for the
shifter rail
btw do those remove the same way a cubs rails come out?

I've not worked on a 130, but I would bet that the shifter is bent, under the cover, and it's not fully shifting into 1st gear. The shifter should be straight all the way down to the ball in the transmisison, and I'd bet that it's bent and not letting it go into gear all the way.

Ok that's something I hadn't thought of that
I'll pay attention to that when I disassemble it
Thanks gitractorman

Re: 130 popping out of 1st gear update

So after removing the top cover, and the shifter fork assy there are three decent ball bearings and springs. The springs were rusted in the cover and consequently lost most of there tension - especially the 1 st & 2 nd gear shift rail. So with new springs 1st gear engagement is crisp and more securely held in place

Correction "detent" not "decent "
