Fall Plowing

Postby FarmallAddict » Sun Sep 19, 2021 3:51 pm

I'm sorry I don't have pictures(I was driving), but I assisted my father in plowing his 1/3 acre garden in preparation for tilling in some organic matter. The C did very well. I was able to plow with the C295 plow in second gear.

I did buy a 3 point hitch kit from tonystractors.com but I haven't had time to bolt it on. In anticipation, I bought some springs sufficient for a helper spring system to aid the lift arms on the touch control system. FYI Tony was very friendly on the phone and a seemed like a quality fellow. The 3 point kit is about 200 pounds of steel shipped from Missouri. The kit seems plenty beefy for what can be expected of a C or Super C.

A couple comments regarding the 3 point kit. It was shipped UPS freight. The kit was broken into 3 packages wire banded together. There were no boxes or a pallet so the paint got a little messed up but so be it. Some of the ball joints were painted over and the paint seeped into the sockets locking up the joints. I solved this with some heat from a map gas torch and penetrating fluid to loosen them up. All the welds and metal look good so I think everything was just cosmetic.

Once I dismounted the plow I lost my step up to the operator's platform. Now I have to step up from the drawbar to the axle housing and up...

I will work on getting some pictures uploaded this spring. The machine has been winterized and parked back in the shed where it's hard to access.

Re: 3 point kit

I'll post a few pictures here. The rear rocker arms and axle clamps are plenty strong, however don't expect any miracles with these 3 point kits. I have yet to test it with something more than 150 pounds and it can only lift light implements. The touch control arms do not have very good leverage as you can see in the photos. I'm not a fan of the extender on the right side touch control arm. They are fairly tough but it seems like it will impart a lot of rotational force when lifting something heavy. I'd say as long as you can safely lift whatever you are trying to use with it the rest of the kit is very strong. This thing isn't practical but in my case I wanted to get just a little more use out of the machine because I enjoy using it. Please forgive any incorrect terminology. The cable hanging down from the machine is a battery tender.

If you modified it and added a hydraulic cylinder to this you would have something. For now I'm trying to leave the hydraulic system on this machine unaltered. There doesn't appear to be a lot of specific information on these kits so hopefully this helps someone.

It does look substantial but I agree...losing the left side axle area is a big negative. it looks like the vertical bracket with the chain attached should be tilted towards the back more for more lifting capacity. I don't recall if you had a fast hitch on it before, but the adaptable arms into the sockets doesn't affect the lifting capability. I have lifted 800 lb implements with mine...The only thing holding it back is weight on the front end. But...you got it and will make the best of it. I bet it will lift more than you think.

Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better about trying to lift a bit more. 800 pounds is really impressive, all things considered. I have a light box scraper that I would like to use to level the driveway with this machine so I'll have to give it a go. You are right about the vertical bracket being a bit too far forward. I still have some adjustments to make to get the lift height correct which will help that problem. If needed, I was thinking it would be extremely easy to fabricate some bolt-on extenders to get them oriented for the best results. I might sacrifice some lift travel distance but most applications you really only need only so much travel. I'm not so worried about front weight, if needed I will add reasonable weight to the front end. I appreciate your insights.

2 things...should be no problem using even a heavy duty grader blade, and I put 2 pieces of plate bolted to the front with a 1" rod between them where I put 4 to 6-25lb barbell plates for front weights. Simple and had them laying around. Note the circle.

Also attached the home made adapter prongs and top link connection. It picked up about 500 lbs of logs with the forks and used a Quick Hitch with my home made boom which worked well too. SC's can pick up a lot of weight.

I don't think it will matter much in the end for my purposes, but my machine is a regular C without a fast hitch. It looks like you have a really nice Super C fast hitch setup with a hydraulic cylinder so your lifting capacity is likely higher than what I can do with just the 3 point kit. The only way to know for certain is to try it out and see. I can report back on how things go. You've got a really nice machine.

If I don't like that extension on the right touch control arm i might be able to get away with using the lift bracket from my 2 bottom plow. I'll just have to experiment with it until I get it right. This weekend I should I have some time to tinker.

I swapped out the right lift arm for the one from the plow and it worked great. The box scraper was heavier than I remember but it picked it up without any problems. It's a 72" Lowery Manufacturing box scraper that we estimate weights 350-400 pounds. We don't really know for sure. It's at least 300. The tractor lifted it easily and I used it to make a couple passes on the driveway for proof of concept.

Wow, looks awesome. Good fix and it works and that is the objective. I'll bet that box is a lot heavier than 300 lbs. That lift should lift 800-1000 no problem although I don't know about the top link attachment).

Check out the lift capacity for the fast-hitch platform carrier, that (if like the Cub) it is in the owners manual!

That should give you a rough idea of the lifting the C is capable of.

I picked up my 7 ft Gannon Earthcavator and that thing has to be 800lbs because the Fergie couldn't hack it.
