SC Oil Pan
I just removed the oil pan from the SC to remove the sludge (wasn't too bad) and to check the oil suction gizmo screen (wasn't too bad either). My question is...what is a good way to remove the old gasket on the facing under the engine without getting all the old fiber shreds up into the engine. It appears to be an old gasket made of thick compressed carton material and someone used gasket seal goop with it so it is really on there. The pan I can grind off but I am concerned about getting shredded, ground pieces up into the engine. A razor knife/scraper isn't getting it

Could you cut a piece of carboard the right size to insert or stuff with towels and then use a wire wheel/wire cup?

You don't know how old that gasket is. So whatever you do, beware that the "thick compressed carton material" may have asbestos in it. Take appropriate safety measures.

Also a good idea and I think I even have one of those....you know the thing you come across every year or two and say you are going to throw out and never do? I will give it a try. Plus they are substantial enough to be sharpened

Re: SC Oil Pan
Don, the painters tool worked perfect along with a razor for both the pan and the valve cover.
