Super C Clutch Issues

Postby ajhbike » Sat Aug 12, 2023 5:46 am

Need a little help here....

I have split the tractor and replaced the graphite throw out bearing with the new style rotating bearing and the style carrier. Note that the new style carrier does not have the flanges for the top and bottom carrier return springs. I am concerned after many searches and looking at the manuals that the new style carrier only works with the Rockford pressure plate (I believe I have an Auburn pressure plate).

Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Thank you.

I have the same tractor and went through the same process. My original throw out bearing looked just like yours, same with the clutch.
I ended up using exactly the same new parts that you have.
The only problem I had was the bushing on the end of the shaft that goes into the crankshaft.
I bought the first one from steiners tractor. It did not work.
I bought the second from yesterdays tractor and it worked perfectly.
I would recommend getting your flywheel grinded down.

Thanks fo rthe reply....not many people have had this experience.

I got the pilot bushing from steiner and it went in tight. One question I had was how far should it go in because when I cut the old one out it was in past flush about 1/4". I left it based on feedback from a YT comment. I now have it put back together. I pulled the plugs, tied a rope on the clutch pedal and cranked it over fast while pulling the clutch pedal repeatedly. No clacking or chatter so I think I may be okay. Next step is to connect the 50 other things up and fire it up (LOL).

I took the opportunity to ultrasonic the carb (Carter) as well so we'll see how that goes......

FYI....Got it all back together and it fired right up, ran and moved through the gears without clattering and clamoring when I let off the clutch! So I guessed right in that it was the worn out graphite clutch and the new weird parts worked.
