Re: I have a problem
Can you stone it off in the area where the gasket failed to determine if there is a flaw in the head or block show any erosion? Also check it for flatness with a straight edge like a level?

I plan on stoning that area , I'm hoping the head and block are still true and flat. It only ran maybe 5 min after it happened . I was plowing when this happened.

Re: I have a problem
has that been a recent rebuild, looks kind of clean ? does not look like the head gasket was copper sprayed ? check the head for warpage

You have a good eye. It has been done some time ago by the previous owner , we have all of the bills for it. But the tractor was used very little. It was done at least ten years ago. The crosshatching is still in the cylinders. I’ve redone the governor on it. The little expensive bearing was gone , like it never was put in.

Re: I have a problem
After closer inspection I noticed the thermostat was just rattling around in the cast. So that needed some attention . It never made on the temp gauge to the run it always stayed in cold. That thermostat setup was very unique I have never seen anything like that before

Re: I have a problem
Well I'm going to have to revisit the thermostat, it runs as it should the temp was coming up so I throttled up some more and it went down to cold again. So I'm sure the thermostat blew out of its intended location . I may need a new retainer.

Re: I have a problem
Umm... There shouldn't be any pressure in the water jacket. The throttle should have little effect on the thermostat housing. (other than vibration)
Might want to look in the radiator for bubbles while it is running.

Re: I have a problem
Increased speed of the water pump would add some pressure against the thermostat. It could be enough to push it out of place if it wasn't well anchored.

Re: I have a problem
did you use the copper spray on the head gasket and check the head for warpage ?

Re: I have a problem
I used a straight edge to check for warpage , I saw nothing concerning . No other material applied to the gasket before reassembly. As for the thermostat, when I put it back together I had no confidence it would last , I took that gamble and lost . I figured it was an easy fix if it failed again . So we might as well order some new parts for it. There are no bubbles in the rad either when it's running. It does run really well.
