Back again on this darn tachometer. I have the right gauge and a cable. I took out the drive and the drive holder from the distributor drive housing. The nylon drive came out of the holder without any resistance and I didn't know any different. The long and short of it is that the cable keeps shifting the drive in the holder.
Looking at the drive there is a narrow part in the shaft and looking at the inside of the holder there is a slot around the inside. Is there supposed to be a snap ring or something internal to the holder to hold the drive in place?

Re: IH 504 Tachometer
see if you can see a snapring slot anywhere---I think there should be one to hold things together. I never had my 504 apart so dont know for positive.
