I.H. 606

Postby W6NZ » Wed Feb 01, 2006 8:38 pm

I bought my 606 (6 cylinder)around mid 1970's, she sounded real business like when put into work. My better half :!: put a lot of hours on the clock and it was her favourite.
She has been looking to buy one here but they are few and far between.
Just wondering if anyone has owned one and what they sell for over your way.

606 is indeed a rarey, at least around here. Was it a U.K. model?
According to my ref book, only maybe 8500 made max. I don't ever remember seeing on here in the Eastern Corn Belt [Indiana[
the ref book says that #501 was made in 1962, the last year listed is 1967, and it started with #7922. No listing of the last number built.
Those years do not match up with the other'06 series [706, 806, etc.]they were 1963-67.
Good luck with it!
Do you have a picture?
One of the few advantages of growing older is that I finally realized that I haven't made ALL the stupid mistakes! Yet!

The 606 is a USA model. The first of the 0x models came out in '62, the 404, 504 amd 606 replacing the 240, 340 and 460 respectively.

Here's my 606. It had very low hours when I bought it. (28). It was a great machine for harvesting our maize (corn) with it's independant PTO (live drive) beaut soft hydrostatic steering, independant hydraulics for trailing implements (2 banks)and T.A. (torque amplifier) it was ideal.
The smooth 6 cylinder that never made your hands tingle after a days work, neighbours with 706's were astounded at its capabilities. It was out performing 656's which replaced it.
