Transmission noise
My Farmall B has some excessive noise in the transmission directly below the shift lever. Is there any additive I can put in there to quiet it down a little bit?
Thank you.

Re: Transmission noise
If it’s making noises that it didn’t make before, it probably has failing bearings or damaged gears. Sometimes, thicker oil or an STP type additive may help a little bit but you’re only buying a small amount of time and may also cause further damage. We’re not there to hear it but all these old tractors have some transmission noise. In my opinion, if it’s real excessive, the only thing really helps is a repair job.

Re: Transmission noise
It may be worth popping off the transmission cover to get eyes on the gears and see what is going on. Check for misalignment, wear, broken teeth, rust, and sloppy positioning.
