'63 560gas - Oil dip stick

Postby phill_mi » Sat Feb 18, 2023 10:41 am

Should the dip stick on a '63 560 gas have a bend in it? I am sure that my dip stick got bent at some point. I notice difficulty inserting it and I recently discovered that if I insert it one way it reads that the oil is at the full mark, and if I turn it over it indicates that the oil is at the add mark. So I am unsure which is the correct reading.
Thanks for any advice.

Wow...you sure got a lot going on!!! I also seem to have several things wrong with several tractors at once. Have a look at a parts diagram to see if there is a bend in it...or cheat and look at replacement dispsticks for that tractor at on line suppliers or ebay pictures (it's cheating but you will get your answer

I have done that and could not tell if there is a slight bend in the pictures. I will try to take a picture mine so that you can see what I am asking. Yes, all three tractors are having issues at a difficult time, so thanks to everyone for the help!

This is the dip stick clamped to a straightedge. The end of the dip stick is about 3/4" above the straightedge. I was hoping that someone with a 560 or similar C263 engine could tell me if their dip stick has a bend like this in it. I have looked at pictures and I cannot tell if this is correct or a problem, but I notice if I insert the stick one way the oil is at the full line and if I turn it the other way the oil is at the add line. So I am wondering if the bend should be there and what is the correct reading.

The parts diagram shows an arrow-straight dipstick.

The bend in that dipstick doesn't look like what would be done in a factory.
