73 IH Cub Cadet 1000 clutch won't disengage

Postby wattz9201 » Tue Jul 09, 2019 8:29 pm

I recently purchased my first cub. It's a 73 model 1000. Engine runs great, but I had to replace all the parts on the driveshaft. I replaced everything except the shaft itself. The previous owner tried to replace the copper bushing that holds the driveshaft in the engine by welding a washer to the fly wheel. It caused alot of damage. It caused wear on the end of the shaft, but the shaft fit in the new copper bushing so I did not replace it. The problem I now have is, multiple times while cutting, the clutch will not disengage. From what I can see the throw out moves the pressure plates release the discs, but the shaft still spins. Has anyone had similar issues

Thanks for any help.

There’s something sticking or binding on the shaft we’re the washer was welded. Your seeing the pressure plates being free when the clutch pedal is pushed down right?
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

The bushing in the plate with the drive pins is binding on the shaft.
