Installing double fuel filters on MTD CC RZT 50

Postby staninlowerAL » Tue Jun 20, 2023 8:52 pm

I have a MTD CC RZT 50 with a B&S INTEK 22hp engine that I'm considering installing an additional fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carb in addition to the OEM filter between the tank and fuel pump. I think it's cheap insurance to get clean fuel to the carb (about $2 if purchased in quantities). Any thoughts yea or nay? Thanks. Stan

Shouldn’t be a problem, my golf cart is set up that way.

Thanks Gary. I'd rather go a little extreme with prevention measures than have to deal with a preventable problem. Stan

If particles are small enough to pass through the first fuel filter, - - they will pass through the second. I suggest changing the original filter more frequently.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The only thing I would watch for is to be sure you are getting enough fuel to the engine. With 2 filters (in series) you are doubling the pressure drop to the carburetor. The output of the fuel pump is probably enough, but it's worth a check.

I tried to put one of these filters on my Farmall Cub and I couldn't get gas to the carburetor. The Cub only has gravity feed and there is not enough "head pressure" for the fuel to flow through the filter. I went to the standard screen filter that is on my 128 Cub Cadet and that worked fine.

I agree with Eugene, particles that pass through the first filter, will pass through the second.

My Kubota diesel zero turn has 2 filters, factory installed, as you described.

Thanks for all the responses. I still have not made the change (maybe I'm just procrastinating). Stan
