Cat 0 vs. sleeve hitch

Postby tiger9297 » Fri Jun 15, 2007 8:32 am

I'm wanting to get some implements to use on my 1450 and I'm debating a sleeve hitch or Cat. 0. Please tell me if I'm seeing this correctly, and if not, where am I going wrong?

- Sleeve hitch implements are lighter duty and would be less load on the 1450, but would do less work. Would the implements requiring a Cat 0 be too much for the 1450 to either lift or pull? Wouldn't make much sense to get a Cat 0 setup and every time you tried to lift the implement the front wheels came up off the ground or if you tried to pull a disc, blade, etc. the tractor just spun its wheels.

- The Brinly-Hardy 3 pt. disc weighs 182lbs. If I were to get a Cat 0 setup would the hydraulics on the 1450 lift this much weight?

- Is anyone here running a Cat 0 on a tractor comparable to a 1450? If so what are you pulling?

- You could always get a Cat 0 and use a sleeve hitch adapter I guess.

THE SLEAVE HITCH ATTACHMENTS ARE LESS MONEY AND MUCH EASIER TO FIND,,I HAVE USED BOTH AND I THINK THE CAT 0 IS A LITTLE MUCH, REMEMBER THIS IS A GARDEN TRACTOR,BUT ITS YOUR CHOICE

1953 super c with fast hitch

The CAT 0 hitch offers more adjustments than a sleeve hitch. You can get a Cat 0 to sleeve hitch adapter to fit sleeve hitch implements to a Cat 0 hitch.

I have run both styles of hitch and prefer the Cat 0 (not because we build/sell them either). I find that with a Cat 0 and a rear blade I can laterally angle the hitch to cut ditches. Can't even of THINK of doing that with a sleeve hitch.

Cat 0's cost more $$$$ sure, but they put less stress on the rear frame cover as they tie both frame rails together. This puts the stress of the implement on the frame, not just the rear cover bolts.

Thanks for the replies. Do you have any pictures of the Cat 0 hitches you build?

I'm a little confused on the sleeve hitch though, as I've never seen one other than in pictures. My question is this: I hear about a "sleeve" hitch, but then I hear about a "sleeve" hitch ADAPTER. What is the difference? So you can have a sleeve hitch, but it doesn't do any good without the sleeve hitch adapter??? Does anyone have any pictures of a sleeve hitch without an adapter and a sleeve hitch with an adapter? I think that is the only way I will ever SEE the difference.

In this photo you can see the plow is attached with a C shape to a larger U shaped bracket. The sleeve hitch is part of the implement. The sleeve hitch adapter is the U shaped piece that is attached to the Cub Cadet 3pt.

In this photo you can see that the disk is directly attached to the Cub Cadet 3pt hitch.
