Hello all. I just got a new GTX 1054 at a great discount. Got it home, set it all up, etc, but have one or two questions:
1. the spindle bearings on the mower deck, according to the manual, and the parts list online (918-04608A) are supposed to have grease zerks. Mine don't. Am I crazy?
2. The place we bought the cub from said I should use 93 octane and an inhibitor additive. Should I?
Thanks
JB

The grease zerks are on the underside of the deck, a real pain to get at!

Re: New Cadet Owner - Zerks!!
The grade of gasoline will not make any difference in how the engine operates, however, the ethanol in gas now is REALLY corrosive when it oxidizes. I would definitely recommend using Stabil or any other recommended fuel stabilizer in your gas. I typically just treat the whole 5-gallon can when I go fill it up at the gas station, that way whatever I run it in has stabilizer in the fuel already. I 87 octane gas in everything I own, and have never had a problem with it.
Also, DO NOT run the tank dry at the end of the season thinking that you are "protecting" the engine by running all the gas out of it. This goes for any engine now. The ethanol is so corrosive and hard on plastic parts when it oxidizes, and you never actually get all the gas out of the fuel bowl in the carburetor, even when you run an engine until it dies. It is MUCH better to treat the gas with stabilizer and fill the tank at least 3/4 way before storing it, this way the fuel in the carb is not exposed to air and will not oxidize as easily.

Gary, thanks for the response. I looked, felt, looked again, felt again...... And when I got your reply I checked again... no ZERKS!!!!...So Am I smoking some bad weed or do they change things sometimes but not bother to update the pubs?
Gitman, thanks for the response. I'll do that, and hope that 25% ethanol isn't the next thing from the EPA.......
Thanks gents

Re: New Cadet Owner - Zerks!!
The grease fittings are under the mower deck on the side of the aluminum spindle housing, between the blade and the underside of the deck, about an inch up from the blade. I'd be very suprised if they're not there. My guess is you'll have to remove the mower deck to find them the first time. After that, you'll know where they are and be able to rotate the blades with your hand so that you can get to them. Oh, and by the way, once you've mowed some wet grass, and packed the deck up with grass, you'll have an even harder time finding them unless you scrape and clean the mower deck first.
