front hydro on articulating cub
Hey guys I have a question. I am building a articulating cub out of a 1250 and a 1650. I will be turning the front diff around so most of it can be under the engine. In doing that I have read that I have to rotate the charge pump or change the flow of the pump. How in the world do I do that? It obviously can be done but I cant figure out how. Any help would be appreciated.

might be easier to flip the ring gear in the differential.

I'm not against doing that but will the pump be rotating the correct way or does it matter?

I think you do have to watch which way the pump is turning. I believe the vanes in the pump are directional, and if you spin it backwards it will not work. Now, the pump itself doesn't matter whether it is pumping fluid for forward travel or reverse travel, and those two directions are infinitely variable, meaning you can adjust it to go as fast in reverse as you can in forwards. It is just a matter of adjusting how far the valve travels for moving the fluid one direction for forward and the other direction for reverse.

Hmmm. Looks like Ima just have to take one apart and see if I can reverse the vanes or some thing.I've seen to many people with this setup so they have to be changing something internal.

Pardon me for being ignorant, but are you dealing with a hydraulic drive (pump and motor) or a hydrostat? If a hydraulic drive can't you just reverse the lines going to the motor? If a hydrostat, you may be able to reverse the control linkage.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I call it a hydrostatic. Everything is bolted together in one unit. I been thinking bout using a central gearbox to turn each pump the correct way but ive not found one yet.

You connect the tranny drive shaft to driveshaft. You need flex u joints. In the middle of the driveshafts you need two pillow blocks with a shaft and pulley going to the engine. Now the direction and flow control valves are the problem.
Maybe standard tranny?
It's been done here maybe he will chime in?

Here is a link to Jim T's "Artie" that he built a few years ago. His worked out pretty nice, so I'm sure there's lots of info to gain from him.

OK he says he rotated the charge pump 180 degrees.that's what I don't understand. Is he rotating the internals?

Re: front hydro on articulating cub
Can one pump be used and the pressure through one hydro tranny then exhaust is used in the second tranny to power it, turn one ring gear around, one shifter runs both trannys, just an idea.

I don't know if that will work or not - but I like the way you think Bill!
