Looking at used cc what to look for

Postby BigBill » Tue Nov 21, 2017 5:34 pm

I had 16 used cadets at one time. Every cadet needed a new headgasket, plan on doing it. Second check the blowby. Look at the air cleaner element. Every used machine that had blowby, the air cleaner element was worn out, thus the cylinder was scored from the carb sucking in dirt. I run the new paper air cleaner plus the foam pre cleaner. Listen to the through out bearing. Check the drivevshaft for wear in that area. Look at both rear axle housings for leakage were the axle seals and bearings are. I’ve seen some run a low oil level where the axle bearing goes kaput and wear into the axle cutting it off. This is when parts tractors are handy to have.

Check around the headbolts for leaking compression if the head isn’t torqued correctly the combustion can find its way up through a head bolt.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
