need rain

Postby Jack » Sun Jun 11, 2023 8:52 am

I sure hope we get rain soon; we need an all day and night steady rain. it hasn't rained since i planted my sweet corn fields, that was around mother's day. the way it looks it will not be knee high by the fourth of July, my melons are sad looking also. I been drip irrigating our vegetable field and the hoophouse from our pond, and that's getting low too!

I plan on putting our Pumpkin field in within the next week or so, so they will be ready for the first week of October. that field will get drip irrigation also.

My first planting of sweet corn looks pathetic. The second planting didn't even break ground. We planted the last of the seed yesterday and have a sprinkler system in place. That corn won't be ready until the first of September.

It finally started raining this morning.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

our third field of corn did not germinate so i may just re-plant that field again. the field is to far from the pond or i would run drip tape to it too.

Been three weeks without rain. "Rain" yesterday was .04 inches. WHOOPIE! Garden looks good but only because I have a soaker hose beside each row. The lawn looks good too. Brown and does not need mowing. At least the temperature has dropped ouut of the 90's. Vern

We finally got some rain here, yesterday. Nice slow, steady shower, for about 3 hrs., then some storms, with heavier rain yesterday evening. We’re supposed to get more tomorrow. Much cooler this week with highs in the 60’s. Our small garden looks good because my wife has been keeping it watered. I transplanted a couple trees, over the week-end, bone dry dirt 16 in. Down. Sure glad to see the rain!

Send it East, been over 2 weeks without any significant rain.
Grass is turning brown. Watering the gardens on a regular basis. Hopefully the well holds up.

My wife checked her rain gauge and the Sunday rain measured just shy of 2”. I planted a couple more trees, yesterday, and had wet / damp soil to a depth of about 8”. The digging was a whole lot easier. The crop fields around us are waking up nicely. I hope, for the farmers, that the weather returns to our normal.

Here in west Mi we had the wettest March and April on record. That has been followed by the driest May and June on record. I have been watering the garden with drip line and as much of the pasture as I can with sprinklers to keep a few head of cattle feed. We have finally been getting a little rain the past week or so. So far it hasn't rained much about an inch total but some thing is better than nothing. I guess over all it is all averaging out.

3 1/2 inches in the rain gauge this morning. Tree limbs scattered all over the lower portion of the acreage.

10 inches of rain in the past week, 3 large rains and some showers.

That's no way to break an extreme drought.
I have an excuse. CRS.

28 " here in 2 weeks, never seen so much hit this area in that amount of time, one day was 10 " tons of flooding, damage, was working on the driveway every other day from the rains coming down so hard and fast, my pond is up 3 ft in the summer, normally the other way around

Still in extreme to severe drought area.

Haven't had to mow the pasture in two summers. Cattle have the grass and most weeds clipped down to ground level. I have only spot sprayed weeds and the fence line.

For two summers I've hauled water to newly planted and two year old nut trees.
I have an excuse. CRS.
