Horseradish - GONE

Postby Don McCombs » Sat Mar 09, 2024 6:54 pm

Dug and processed some horseradish root yesterday. If you’d like your own patch, I have some ready-to-plant crowns that I’ll ship to the first person that PM’s me with their mailing address.

Will probably process horseradish in a day or two.

Warm for this time of year. 2 inches rain this week. And, darn it, grass will need mowing in another week.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Curious as to early spring harvesting of HR. I have a nice patch that I often forget about and my parents always harvested in the late fall.

I think either time is suitable.

fall is best but either time works. in the fall its stronger, -- spring has a slight "green taste" to it but still great!! lol!! Any month with an "R" in it is good!

When I dig in the Spring, I only do it before the new leaves start to emerge from the crown. When I dig in the Fall, it is after a heavy frost when the leaves have died back.

Don's horseradish is good stuff. I have a plot from a crown he gave me maybe 10 years ago.
