Child hurt in tractor accident
The Gazette Staff
A 9-year-old boy was transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital Monday after he fell off a tractor at 2393 Paugh Road, Bainbridge, and was pinned under its wheels.
Christopher Evans didn't have any life-threatening injuries, according to Ross County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Gallagher, but he was still flown to the hospital as a precaution.
"It basically looked like a knee or upper leg injury, maybe a hip," he said. "It was all below the waist."
Gallagher said Evans was on the back of the tractor with his father while his father was plowing the driveway. The father stopped and was in the process of backing up when the boy fell off.
"He heard him yell, and by that time, the wheel was sitting on his son's legs," he said. "The dad was pretty shaken up."
The emergency call, which came in about 11:51 a.m., was answered by a Greenfield squad.
If the tractor has a rollover protective structure, securely fasten your seat belt.
Where possible, avoid operating the tractor near ditches, embankments and holes.
Reduce speed when turning or crossing slopes and on rough, slick or muddy surfaces.
Stay off slopes too steep for safe operation.
Watch where you are going, especially at row ends on roads.
Don't permit others to ride.
Operate the tractor smoothly, no jerky turns, starts or stops.
Hitch only to the drawbar and hitch points recommended.
When tractor is stopped, set brakes securely and use parking lock if available.

The poor kid and the poor father. I don't really know which to feel the most sorry for. Hopefully the child will recuperate but I am sure the father never will forgive himself.
