Hydraulic lift lever.
Just bought a 1972 154 today and all in all in pretty nice shape. Now the hydraulic lever to lift the deck pulls back and works just fine. But to lower the deck, when I push it forward, it takes a ton of force to push it outward to the right to get the locking pin or whatever you would call the rod that is welded to the lever to clear the stop so I can push the lever further forward to lower the deck. Is there any downside or reason I cant bend the upright rod out a but so it will no longer act as a stop. My old 1949 Cub neve had any kind of a stop to mess with to lower the deck. So have others done the same as I want to do or is there a valid reason I shouldn't to this. Tks, well versed on the early Cubs but learning this new machine.

Re: Hydraulic lift lever.
The rod is supposed to hold the hydraulics in the floating position. It snaps over a round headed bolt or something like that. Maybe the rod is bent

Sorry I guess its not a round head bolt. Heres a pic from the parts manual. Number 21. maybe the rod is hitting the mounting bolt for number 21?

I think #21 bracket is there as a stop for the hyd lever but for some reason it does too good of a job. So I think I will bend it out in increments and see what happens. I’ll report back how I make out.

Number 21 is so the rod fits in the notch at the top to hold it in the float position

The deck should lower long before it contacts 21

Re: Hydraulic lift lever.
So like I said, this bracket stopped the lever from lowering the deck. Had to really push it to the right super hard to get it past the bracket to lower it. I mean real hard.
So went to bend the upright pin outwards and needed some heat for a little help. Got it out and out of the way of the bracket and all is well. Up and down with just normal effort. Looks like the bracket is somewhat adjustable by loosening the bolt and sliding it. Wonder if it was adjustable to stop the downward position to were you might want the deck to stop repeatedly, short of the whole way down. Just my guess
