I got my eye on a low boy 154, I like the idea of mechanical clutch live pto as a dedicated mowing machine. the tractor is ugly as far as paint but all the tin is straight with fair tires from the photos I;m looking at. it is complete with exception of one of the small side panels and the woods mower still has original paint and all belt guards and belt in place. one hour left on online auction and its $355
how much should I bid? to be safe
I figure even if it needs new pistons, bearings and clutch and new bearings, seals and blades for mower that might cost me $1200-1500 in parts.
compared to a box store riding mower for $2000. I'm pretty sure the c60 engine 154 will last much longer

JMHO, I would expect your YANMAR 1500D will outperform the 154. I have both and the Yanmar will do things that the 154 will not do. I especially like the Hi/Lo transmission and the 3pt hitch. It handles a 42 inch Bush Hog Sidewinder mower with ease and is very manuverable in tight places. Stan

Since the online auction is over, $355- is around the price of a parts tractor. $355- plus and an expected $1500- in restoration parts. That's the price of work ready Numbered Cub.
I have an excuse. CRS.
