154 clutch problem
I've had 2 different rebuilt clutches from my IH dealer, the 1st one had 1 finger .060" lower than the other 2 when installed, just got done installing the 2nd one, it has 1 finger .100" and another .030" lower than the one touching the t/o brg. He offers a new pressure plate for about $160, am I going to have the same problem with the new one? These fingers are not adjustable, can't figure why a rebuilder would bother if they can't get any closer than these measurements, or am I being too picky? It would be impossible to set the correct clearance on these rebuilts Any advice is welcome, I never thought installing a clutch would be this complicated Thanks in advance. John

I had the same problem with a pressure plate purchased from an IH dealer. The pressure plate was made in India. The adjusting screws were lock tighted in. I finally purchased a used, rebuilt pressure plate from a commercial tractor salvage firm. The fingers were adjustable. The rebuilt pressure plate is made of heavier metal (steel) than the new IH plate.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Doc - I think the "To do what?" comment is in reference to Matt's '18" Crescent wrench and a bit of force' reply.
Ill John - I think Matt was suggesting some brute force adjustment to the fingers.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
