"WHAT" an improvement ! ! !
As some of you lnow, I recently aquired a 185 that had seen some severe cobbling in it's past. The PO had installed a different distributor because he forgot to tighten a screw when he was inside there messing around and it came loose a created havoc. I've pretty much got all the obvious things fixed/repaired so I decide to take a look/see inside the cap. I bumped it over until the points where open to check the gap. I'm only exaggerating a little when I say I just about didn't have enough feeler gauges to stack up to check the gap. Needless to say, it was a "little" wide. I reset it and put it all back together and hit the key. It was like a TOTALLY different tractor.I can't beleive how much smoother it is. Now I'm really wondering how far off the timing is. Considering what I've found, I'm surprised the PO even got the thing to run. Next weekends project is to check/set the timing.

HEH . . .HEH . . .HEH . . .
Curiosity got the best of me so I ran into the garage tonight to check the timing. At idle, it was probably 32* BTDC. Set it to 0 at slow idle. Forgot to check high speed advance since it has a "red" distributor body. I do have the old weights and springs if needed.
Hmmmmm . . . what to do this coming weekend now?
