We do talk about safety with the tractors. Here is another thing to consider.

That’s just awful and as a fan of tractor and truck pulling I hope and wish these events are few and far between. Sadly anytime machinery is operating sometimes bad things can happen…..then the parasites called lawyers enter the scene.

News story can be read here. https://patch.com/pennsylvania/across-p ... actor-pull
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I had this same scenario going through my mind as I was watching farm stock 10,000# weight class dead-weight pulls at my local community fair over the weekend. It is a shame that the story's author and editor aren't up on terminology ('exhaust wheel'). At first I thought that one of the wheels fractured or something.

Reading the article using Barnyard's link, sounds like the turbo let go;
"The tractor "sustained an equipment malfunction," according to a preliminary investigation report by Trooper Troy R. Croak.
The investigation discovered that "an exhaust wheel within a turbo housing of the tractor became dislodged and ejected from its manifold," Croak's report said. "The exhaust wheel then ejected from the metal covering of the tractor, before a piece of the wheel struck the victim in her neck."
Author quoted the troopers' report.

Yup, that's what I understood after getting through the strange wording. Maybe it's the engineer in me, but it's like nails on a chalkboard when I encounter convoluted descriptions of an automotive or mechanical part that ought to be well-known and pretty standard.
Regardless, I've dragged this off-topic. What a terrible tragedy for this young lady's family and friends.

Re: Mom Of 2 Dies After Being Hit By Debris At PA County Fair Tractor Pull
Jim,
Agreed.
I'm an assistant advisor with a 4H Club - Piston Pushers, that works with youth ages 9-19, getting them familiar with small engines in lawnmowers, lawn tractors, snow blowers, etc. Anything with a 4-cycle (some 2-cycle) gasoline powered engine.
The annual fair was this past weekend and the big event for our club is the garden tractor pull. Safety is always a concern, making sure there are no fuel leaks, uncovered drive shafts, inadequate hooks/chains, etc.
Freak accidents are almost unavoidable and this one goes to show that anyone at anytime can be part of one.
In this case, a family having an enjoyable time at the county fair is completely upended and changed forever by a tragic accident.
I can't imagine the shock, grief, heartache, and pain this family is going through.
