My New Brockway!
Here is the Brockway that I was posting about earlier. This is the one that we are going to get for FREE from my great uncle. It needs some body work, but it runs and has a wet line to the back for say a dump body/goose neck etc. and here are some other pics. http://photobucket.com/albums/c47/jostev/Brockway/?

Thanks Bill, I hope to get it this spring, and restore it over the summer. My great uncle also said that he had a bunch of spare parts for it too!!! I also am starting to think about making small batches of veggie oil for it!, just a thought right now, nothing concrete yet.

I just wanted to tell everybody that I might not need to get a CDL when I'm 18 because an exclusion to a CDL is any farm vehicle that operates within 150 miles of the farm. And the tractors are registered as "farm" tractors, so... we might get off with it!!!!!!!!! and I AM getting it this spring

carm,
if you like hanging around with the guy who asked for your labor, take him up on it. these are only a few of the reasons for this advice.
1. when working on a truck of that size you get into places that make a real pain in the butt to get the wrench you didn't take with you, or a clean finger to flip the page in the manual is a big help.
2. some of the torque requirements on engines and rear ends of that size make a couple hundred pounds on the end of a wrench valuable if the "dead weight" knows what it is doing or not.
3. a good chance to catch up on shim stock production.
4. that's a chance to get a cheap education. it never hurts to clutter up your mind with some more knowledge if there is a sheepskin at the end or not.
5 a person working on this sort of equipment alone, or with help, can find themselves in situations when someone to dial 911 is a genuine life saver. BE CAREFULL.

Back whe Bev and I were first married I moonlighted for a trucking company. They had a contract with a small supermarket chain. We used trailers for graceries with full sized diesel tractors. We used a 1941 Chevy cab over for pickup in the old Washington produce market in down town NY. That tractor was the only one short enough to meet the length restrictions during pickup hours. I don't remember exactly but with a 28 foot trailer we just made the 32 or 33 foot limit. There was a big old Brockway regestered for 38,00 lb with a refrigerator body used in the meat market.. There were times I barely got home in time to leave for work. The Brock would be parked in front of the house. When Bev wanted the car she had to return the Brock to the yard and pick up the car. She is a good sport and learned pretty Quick to drive a 2 speed with a clicker on the shift. This was before CDL's. All you needed was a NY Chaufers license. Brockway was a good truck, so were Diamond T, and Reo.
