Postby Jackman » Sat Apr 14, 2007 6:42 am

Any one have luck selling an RV? I tryed e bay 3 times and local ads for 2 years, just got a bunch of time wasting tire kickers, I think it may get donated to a charity for the tax right off or loss.....I have been trying to sell one with no luck, seems high gas prices have put a squash on camper sales

I dont know your geographic location Jack. But Ive sold quite a few R.V.s Up here in New England RIGHT NOW is the time to sell. People are eager to go camping and looking to buy. Fla. sucks for selling but is a great place to buy one cause the market is flooded with used units. CHEAP. It goes without saying that the unit should be fairly clean, ready to use, (hoses, cords, etc.) and priced fairly for the market that its in. I price mine from the NADA used vehicle book. Usually midway between wholesale and loan value. Frank

thanks all, Id be more than happy to just see it go for cheap, I believe the gas prices are to blame since this is a nice low milage camper, I can't lie to anyone it gets 9 miles per gallon when loaded  I was just wondering if there is a place that RV type people shop on line, I ran an ad off and on for more than 2 years and got lots of lookers but no takers  :x ........

have you tried http://www.craigslist.com? It is getting pretty popular. In my area (eastern Mo.) it is pretyt difficult to sell a use motorhome or large camper. Due to a combination of fuel prices and economy in general dealers are selling new ones for the same prices they used to get for 4 or 5 year old used ones. A lot of people have realized they can rent a cabin, condo, or even a furnished home for their vacations for the money the trip costs in a mototrhome, and the expenses stop when they leave, rather than running on continuolsy.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

One further note, you can no longer take off the blue book value on a deduction. The law has changed and you can only take off what they get for it. something many of the "charities" neglect to tell prospective contributors. This also means you won't get your voucher till after they dispose of it.

When you mentioned 9mpg I now know you got a motorhome. Tough to get rid of. I recently witnessed a 96 Airstream 32 foot diesel pusher sold for $4000. thats right $4000. needed a small roof patch and a good cleaning. Craigslist.org. is your best bet. Beware of scam artists though, cash on the barrelhead only. Good luck Frank
