I picked up two refills this afternoon for our HP. The store tech gave me a sheet stating that HP, Canon, Lexmark, and IBM are sending out (already done in England) a printer update that will permanently encode on a cartridge that it has been used. This will make it unuseable if refilled. He said that during initial printer installation, there is usually a default box checked that allows for automatic updates. I looked for it to uncheck in printer properties and couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any information about this, or know how to find and uncheck the default box?
Thanks, Bob

Re: printer cartridge alert
Sounds like an urban legend to me. How would the printer "write" to the cartridge without some pretty sophisticated mechanism in place already?
