Hey, Guys and Gals
What is the best rust converter that you use? I have read about chemicals that convert rust back to solid. I am resurrecting a finish mower and the deck and support metal has some scale that I would like to try and save as much of the deck as I can before priming and painting to protect.

Re: Mower Deck Rust
You'll need to remove the scale before using a rust converter. It will work on surface rust, but not on flaking metal.

Darn. Strange how it seems the structure of steel changed over the years. 30's to 60's it seems steel and iron just doesn't rot and after that it seems to

May have a lot to do with where and how the steel is produced. Can you spell China and India?

Re: Mower Deck Rust
on the bottom of the deck I use the spray on bed liner for pick up truck beds, grass just falls off after it dries so no more rot from the bottom

Re: Mower Deck Rust
Tim, how long does that truck bed liner last? Do you scrape the grass off or wash it off? Or does it fall off by itself?
I'm getting too old to get on my knees to scrape & wash that caked on grass off!
And I'm about to clean up & repaint a Woods 42, so now would be the time!

Re: Mower Deck Rust
when I redo the deck they are sandblasted ,primed then shot with bedliner, 5 ft deck one can is one coat, about $15.00 here, I like 2 coats, the grass never sticks to metal again, I mow 10 acre lawn, did it 5 years ago and looks just like the day I put it on, I find grass "donuts " laying on the ground, just falls off, as you know my knees are shot, never go under the mower except to service blades and its always clean
