I had a brain fa.. I mean storm today. Anyone interested in a little seminar on making your own gaskets. I have a bunch of gasket material we could use. It's a real simple thing to do and there is just a little know how needed.

Great idea Cecil. I was trying to find the gasket material that someone gave out at your first Cubfest and couldn't locate it when I wanted to make one for something. I can see that would be a useful thing add to the bag of tricks.

I may bring the loader Lo Boy if I can get all my ducks in a row. Anybody know how to change the hydraulic fluid in a beast like that??

Hi Larry. If your plans in the future are to completely re-do the Cub and loader, I would wait till then to do a complete change of fluid. At that time, you'll have the cylinders off and can drain them completely. Right now, you'll never get all the fluid out. and you'll end up just changing some, not all. Whatever new fluid you add will get mixed with the old, which is not a bad idea. Better to have half clean, than NO clean :D :D

Rick.

Thanks Rick and Don. I have printed a copy of Rudi's manual and the parts manual. They help a lot, but really are short on the specifics of changing the hydraulic oil. After all it is an 'Operators Manual' not a service manual.

This beast has oil in places where it shouldn't...... but the loader runs smoothly 8) And the oil is crud not liquid, no obvious leaks and the oil is on the Cub not the loader. 8) 8) I haven't really looked at it too closely yet.

I will probably fill the hydraulics, clean up the Zenith carb, change the fluids and plugs and use it this summer and make a decision later. Right now I can't fit it inside... you can have too many Cubs when it comes to covered storage. But this one looks comfortable outside and probably wouldn't know how to act with a roof over it.

Thanks again.

Yes Cecil a seminar on making your own gaskets would be helpful to many cub owners new and old. We all been stuck at night looking at a broken gasket many times i'm sure. I have a stock of gasket paper and have made my own gaskets for many years too. It sure kept me running and not waiting for monday morning to buy one, if its still available. Its good to have options besides silicone too when all else fails. I think we can cover it all making gaskets and when to silicone it, and what to use. Maybe we can talk about thread lockers too since all 3 things go together.

Larry
believe there is a drain plug in the front of the mast for the loader. with the loader on the ground, remove the plug and drain the hydraulic fluid out. install new fluid and run it.
you can install a temperary filter in the return line from the loader BUT DO NOT OPERATE THE TOUCH CONTROL WITH THE FILTER IN PLACE. there is no pressure on the return line untill the touch control is moved then it goes to full pressure and blows the filter up spewing fluid everywhere

it will soak you real quick. works good as long as you use the loader which cycles oil into the resivour and back thru the pump and loader valves BUT you touch the touch control and you will only do that one time

Guess I won't put the filter on... I plan on using the york rake on the fast hitch and I sure wouldn't like to blast an innocent bystander (or tree) with hydraulic oil. I may drain the 'mast' as that looks like I would get most of it. If the return to the the TC is 'pressurized' when the TC is in use that may be where the leak is or was.....

Could be more fun just to take Cathy, sure is a much prettier tractor.

Larry
I put the filter on for a short time and then removed it. The filter is set up with quick connects and just plugs in the circuit. run the tractor operate the loader and then shut the tractor down and remove the filter
