Carb straightening jig and Cubarama

Postby Scrivet » Sat Sep 13, 2014 9:05 pm

I have a warped carb top and was wondering if any one that has a carb straightening jig could bring it to Cubarama. Either so I could borrow it for a little while :)
or so I could watch you make it unwarped for me :D
Probably even could get a small audience together for a demonstration clinic if you were so inclined. :{_}:

What about a seminar on how to straighten one? Jaymie is always wanting something on that order.

Does that include screws, washers, clamps and a big hammer :lol: or whatever else is required to actually straighten it? I have a vague idea how it's done from a few pictures here on the forum.

I don't see any humor either, just sounds like the sensible approach to me. :{_}:

Well, to bring this post to a close, or nearer to it, I did a private demonstration on top straightening and it went over well, the demonstration went well that is, the straintening part went fairly well. Bill Darr was watching and said "In all my years, I have never seen a top break from straightening it". Image. That was it, all calmness ended. Scrivet and I looked at each other and thought "This better not be it!" From that point on we watched every twist of the screw and turn of the "C" clamp. We would lay it down for a bit and people would come over and ask what it was and we would explain it to them. They thought it was neat and walked away thinking they just talked to a couple of pros. As long as they didn't see any accidents we were safe. By the end of the day (did I say we would lay it down for a bit? Well, we did that a lot. :lol: ) we took the clamps off and felt we were pretty successful. There were several bends in the top. We managed to get them all except for part of one which was really bad. It straightened some but not to our liking. I didn't have to do a formal demonstration at "Tinker Time" yet passersby got a glimpse at how it was done. Thanks Jeff for being the test case.

Here is a jig that doesn't require mailing. A little quicker than Barnyard's too.

Three things I take from that video:

1) Why is it that at :36 in that video I was waiting for some big scary face to pop up;
2) Are you insinuating Scrivet and I were just fiddling around with his carb, and;
3) Becker doesn't sound like an Irish name to me. :lol:
