Yes, between the fiberglass and the size of it, I'm pretty sure it's for fertilizer.

Re: Help identifying a planter?
this link shows the Poax hopper, not a great planter, they only made a few plates for it
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=113473&p=903388&hilit=duplex+hopper#p903388
this link shows the duplex type, its missing the lid, not a bad planter but plates are real hard to find
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=110842&p=880722&hilit=duplex+hopper#p880722
these are the only two types that will work with your drive unit, if it was me I would find a combination hopper and drive or a Richmond type as plates are easy to get

tst:
Thanks for the links! The duplex looks very similar to the Cole Duplex planter that I rigged up behind the Super AV to plant with last week. Who makes the duplex planter, and is it compatible with the drive unit that I have? We have a lot of plates and gears for a Cole duplex planter that was horse/mule drawn that I rigged for the Super AV.
Edit: I just saw that the duplex is compatible. Where can I find a combination or Richmond type and drive unit? Thanks again, Ken

Re: Help identifying a planter?
I was looking through the old Cub stuff that Pa bought several years ago and I'm certain I saw one of these mounted on a side mount drive. I'm wondering what else I need for the duplex planter/hopper and if the Cole plates will fit?

Re: Help identifying a planter?
I found this YT video and the planter mounted on the Cub looks identical to the Cole duplex planter that we have. I'm wondering if it can be "modified" to drive off of the side mount system, instead of ground driven?

tst,
Thanks for all of the help. We are heading home in the AM. I loaded the new to me Super A and all the cultivating arms, and planter drive unit. I also grabbed all of the "related" stuff that was in the barn. I'll try figuring out what I need to get a working planter before the next garden planting hopefully.
I checked the garden this AM that I planted last Friday. Most of the corn is up, okra, and beans. Strange but the only a few seeds haven't sprouted yet, crook neck squash, zucchini, cantaloupes, and water melon.

I agree here. Although the Cole and Duplex May look alike, they are not the same diameter. I was at a parts graveyard and saw plates I thought were duplex, couldn’t make out the brand name. Bought them cheap. There were several. Got home and found they weren’t duplex, but we’re Cole. All wasn’t lost. Gave them to a friend with a Cole planter

Re: Help identifying a planter?
Thanks everyone. I picked up an IH Duplex planter and 5 sets of plates. Needs a little cleaning up, but complete and everything works.
