Coils
Curious as to your thoughts on this....Do coils deteriorate or do they either run normally and then fail? Had some skipping on my 3020 and have started with the ignition...plugs and plug wires good, points good...(could be condenser??) and want to rule out the coil before moving to fuel and carb and air.

Re: Coils
I've had it happen both ways. Most of the time the coil begins to misfire when it gets hot, sometimes will quit then restart when cools down. Had one that ran fine, then one day when I went to start the engine, no start. Points would fire every revolution but no fire out of the distributor cap or at the plugs. End result was a short in the high voltage winding of the coil. Replace it and all is well. JMHO Stan

Re: Coils
Last week replaced the coil on the skid steer. Run for a while, die. Start right back up, run for a while, die. Etc. Etc.staninlowerAL wrote:I've had it happen both ways.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Coils
Thank you. I think I will get another one...7 tractors so it should be something to have around as a spare and they are relatively inexpensive.
