Allis Chalmers G

Postby batty54 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 5:35 pm

Here are the pictures of my Allis Chalmers G. When I bought it, the previous owner said it was locked up. I did see the PO towing it down the road past my house trying to start it, all they did was to drag the rear tires. When I finally got it, sure enough it was tight. I was disassembling the cultivators so it would be easier to work on, when I noticed a slight movement of the fan, when I rocked it backwards. I pushed it into the garage and started tearing it down. The starter was stuck on by one bolt. The tank was clean (at least one less item to attend to. Generator was in need of a rebuild wiring harness was shot, the carb. would not move and there were a number of oddball screws holding the points and condenser in. I finally got the engine off and in the bell housing was the other starter bolt it had wedged itself between the flywheel and bell housing. Engine turned over fine!!!!!!!!!! After a long cleaning and repair/rebuilding all engine accessories and making a new wiring harness. I finally breathed life into the old G. It ran great and served me well for a number of years. To this day I don't know what year it was but it did have the creeper gear. You had to push the shifter over past 1st gear and down to get it in. The shift pattern did not show it but the decal did. I used to put it in creeper gear with a trailer on the back and be able to walk along the rows of squash to harvest, by myself.

Someday I will have one. They are rather unique little tractors. Glad to hear that you had good luck with yours.

Pony: I checked out a fellow in north Louisiana who had a couple. I was not interested but was looking for a friend in the Little Rock area. His price was $3,000 each. The friend called the fellow and talked Allis G for an hour. The owner wouldn't budge a bit on price, $3,000 each or they don't sell. They didn't sell, at least not to my friend. Dan

If I only had some money. One of these, a Super C with fast hitch, and a JD L. along with several tractors are on my list.
