Bus Bar for batterys
Made my busbars today. I had a piece of 3/4 copper pipe and made it out of that. I made sure that was a air space around the batteys so they could get air cooling.

Re: Bus Bar for batterys
Hi Bill
Its for one of the 24v battery banks for the windgenerator. Its four 220 amp hr 6v batterys. I am going to parallel it with another set of batterys. The price of wire is crazy these days. And I would have had to order high amp terminal ends to solder on. I had the copper pipe in the garage and I would have less transitions for the power to go through.

I was gonna say.... That ought to spin the old cub over. Might need another bank of 'em to power the ground penetrating radar system though.

Re: Bus Bar for batterys
One thing to watch on your setup is that the batteries must be closely matched as to size and age. I used a similar setup using whatever old batteries I could find. The older batteries would drain the newer batteries and the charger would overcharge the smaller or newer batteries trying to charge the older larger ones. Could lead to problems if left unattended.

Re: Bus Bar for batterys
Thanks Flyawa
I am using new batterys but my brother is using used batterys and I will let him know that. And I am going to get a second battery bank. I have three 750 watt wind generators that are going to charge the batterys. And have a 5000 watt power inverter that I am going to use to power the house.

That's pretty great... Do you have any pictures of the windgenerators?

Tell us more about your set-up. Are you going to go completely off grid.

Nice! I'd love to see pictures of the wind generators as well. Is this going to be your primary source of electricity or a back up system?

Re: Bus Bar for batterys
I am putting up three of these
I haven't got around to putting any up yet. Two are going on the addition I am wanting to put up on my garage. And one on the front of the garage after I rip the roof off of it and build a gamberal roof for it.
I am going to make it semi grid. A three thousand watt grid tie inverter is over $5000. I got a 5000 watt standalone inverter for $470 with shipping. After the the like comes in from the meter it will go into a transfer switch that will pull off of the the line or generator. Then it will go into a panel that will run all my 220 (well pump, dryer and water heater) and 110 for refridge, washer and yard light and possibly the microwave. Then into another transfer switch that will pull off of either the other panel or the inverter from the windgenerators. Which will run the rest of the house.
I will eventually add some solar panels to it but I already have too many irons in the fire.

Cowboy, good luck with your project. Can't wait to hear how everything works and if you are satisfied with the results when everything is on-line. Keep us informed.

Smigelski
Thats pretty much what it is. It has windings on the stator but the rotor has high power magnets so no brushes to wear out nor do you have a field to charge. Some of the home made kits use a GM alternator that they put magnets in.
Thanks Vince
I'll do that. The biggest problem I see is trying to get the power draw balanced so I use all the power I can from the windgenerators. While they make automatic switches they do not make any to transfer the power the way I want it to.
Howdy Mike
The way I am going to do I am not going to get that check I am going to run the house on two different systems. Im Michigan DTE only pays 2 cents per KWH while they charge 4.7 cents + another 4.5 to deliver it. And a 3600 watt power inverter that would allow me to sell power is $5000+ where as the 5000 watt inverter I got only cost $470.

I can see your point ($$). It would be a moral victory to get even $1, but not if it cost $4530.00.
