My wife and I spent the day helping a friend move and he gave me the garden tractor that his father-in-law purchased new from the local LandMark Coop in 1941. They still used the garden tractor every year. I remember my grandfather had a Springfield garden tractor that looked similar. I think the book for it is still at Mom's house. Dad had a two wheel 2.5 hp Bolens that included a sickle bar, plow, disk and cultivator that we traded even up for my '48 Cub back in 1973. Dad used the Bolens in the garden and to clean up around fence rows. I can still remember running it. It was pretty hard for me to do as I didn't have much meat on my bones back then Dad said he had purchased it at an auction for $25. I think we got a good trade for a then non running cub with a sickle bar It brings back a lot of good memories of my Dad.

Re: My new garden tractor
If you can find the manuals for the tractor. Put them in a safe place and make efforts to maintain them.
I recently came by two each of the 2 wheeled garden tractors, a Wards and a Wizard. The Wizard came with manuals. Information - manuals on the Wards is hard to impossible to come by.

I have an excuse. CRS.

I'm glad the 2-wheeler came with memories of your dad. That makes it priceless acquisition.

That looks like a Blackhawk Model C sold by farm coops. The engine slides to tighten the belt, Briggs model 14 engine. Made somewhere in Ohio, I think, but I don't have the owners manual in front of me.

Re: My new garden tractor
That's really sharp!
You could probably get it looking like new without much trouble.
Glad it's got a good home.

Re: My new garden tractor
Nice gift, goes to show it never hurts to help someone out! The Nebraska Tractor Testing facility has quite a tractor history , there are 44 pages of historical pictures of tractors, some of which are of these types of garden tractors (don't recall the makers, but might be worth the look for the fun of it). http://contentdm.unl.edu:2000/cdm4/brow ...
