Hi All,
I have ran across an Allis Chalmers G that is for sale.
Kind of a odd looking machine and was wondering if any of you know anything about them.
You can see a picture of one at: http://www.tractorshed.com/ac.html
Are they rare or worth fooling with??
Thanks,
Ron

Ron, I wouldn't say they are rare but Allis G's are quite collectable. I've never owned one but I know some folks who do and they love them. They are great tractors for garden work. Parts seem to be pretty much available and these tractors hold value quite well.

Ron:
Couple things that I know about the "G".
The "G" seems to be based on the original concept drawings for the Cub. Really nice little tractor. In fact, ifn I was to buy a non-red tractor, the "G" would be the one!
A friend of mine about 4 miles up the road has not one but two of them. One has been totally restored which looks awesome and the other is literally almost "mint". That one is truly gorgeous!
Here is the prototype concept sketch which never went into production.

Rudi,
Did I send you that picture? It's a picture of a design Larry Goss did when he was a student. It was made as a wooden mockup. I remember that it was intended to be powered by a fuel cell... in the early 60's!!! Larry never really thought it could work for thermodynamic reasons.
I'm sure Bigdog saw the picture at the same time I did, so maybe he can offer some details.

George, if I remember correctly that is the picture I took of Larry's prototype drawing. I think I sent a copy to Rudi. And you're right, we both saw it at the same time. Cubfest at Farmer's.

George:
You and Big Dog are probably right.
For some reason I mis-read or somehow mis-understood which in my advanced stage of aging is quite easy to do
Thanks for correcting me.
Can you fill me in a bit more on the drawing/mockup, the designer and the concept?
be nice to have that clarified and wrote down somewhere....

Rudi, Larry Goss is a regular participant on the ATIS e-mail lists. He was at Cubfest 04. If we're lucky perhaps he will attend this year's Cubfest and we can find out more.
