The new gas caps
Got the new caps today, and they are NOT like the ones I got last time!--The last batch would work on most tanks, even the 2 cubs we had at the time. This time I got one for the third cub,2444,404, & 504.
Had to take the one off the 560 and use it on the cub, then put todays on the 560, so it all came out ok but the new ones are made wrong,--just like you guys said!! thanks; sonny

I wonder if they changed fabricators Or it could be that they are made in China now of a cheaper craftsmanship and quality.

just found now there are at least 3 different lengths of the outside shell's, after looking at a couple more of mine!------The plot thickens!!!!
If I need to grind some off I can, that's not a problem as I have re-made new parts to fit before!
It's not so much of getting what you pay for but the so-called safety thingy that IH is supposed to be correcting,--not making it worse with improper fitting parts! -----could get someone hurt if they weren't aware of the no-fit problem!
I know IH didn't have to replace the caps, and I really appreciate the fact that they did, but there is still the safety factor involved!-----just my 02, (and that's not worth much anymore!!) thanks; sonny

Guys:
Brandon Kibe is aware of the problem and is working with the production people to figure out what the prob is.
Keep your shipping labels.. etc., as they may be part of a possible recall/exhange program. He mentioned that it WILL be resolved as it is part of the compliance program in a court ordered settlement.
Work with him, not agin him ok... make sure that you give him good info. IF you can provide pics, measurements, batch lot numbers etc. (these should be available somewhere on the cap or the packaging), it may be helpful to him in finding out WHERE the problem lies..
Do a search on it and you will see that there are a number of threads on this already and Brandon is actively seeking a solution. Navistar's word is on this.

Seems to me that the manufacturer should know or find out when and why the change in the caps occured. That would make it simpler to correct there "Screw-up"'
I was going to order a couple more but decided to wait until the cap problem is fixed. Now I wonder if there will be an extension on the expiration date.

I once heard it said that if there was someone standing on a corner giving away $100 bills, someone would complain because they didn't get two $50's instead.
This is a voluntary participation program on the tractor owners part, and no one has to order the new caps. As I understand the program, the new caps are to replace original caps that the vent was stopped up on and thereby not venting the pressure buildup in the gas tank as they should. If the vent in your original cap is not plugged/stopped up and still venting correctly, you probably don't need the new cap anyway. Since Navistar is aware of the problems with some of the last caps, why not give them a chance to correct the problem. It could be an easy fix, or it could involve finding and tooling up another vendor, but what ever the problem, I believe they will get it straightened out. Just give them the chance.
