Farmall Cub

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone and say thanks for all of the support that everyone has given me here. My name is Josh Meredith, I am 27 years old and the proud father of 3 children, Ashlee, Mikey, and Austin. I married my high school sweet heart Christine. I am from Grayson Co, Kentucky. I am a Lieutenant here at the county jail (more like a prison now than a jail). I have been here for 6 years. My uncle and I run an alternator,starter, and generator rebuilding shop, Ive been working there for 13 years (yep started at 14 years old). I am also a volunteer fireman on 2 fire depts and a KY certified Emergency Medical Technician. For 27 years old I sure do have lots of irons in the fire huh? I am currently working on a 1949 cub as most of you know. I have now given here a name "CHRISTINE", thats right after my wife and grandmother. Well thats about it, hope to get to know more of you. your lucky to have ralph close by. once you ride those kids on christine you'll never be able to get rid of her, she becomes part of the family :wink:

how about a shipping address for getting an alternator rebuilt. the bearings are out of mine and I am having a problem finding a shop that I trust seems like all the small ones shut down anround here. Alternator is from my 76 cub and the bearings are out it charges but shredds belts real quick

Until I read that you were like almost in Ralph's backyard, y'all almost sounded like you was a Canadian with all them pockers in the fire. See, when it is cold as a witches - wellyouknowwhat - up here we have two choices -- you took em both.. get lots of work done and makin babies... very, very Canadian :!:

Now, as an aside, Ron mentioned something very important. Can you please let us know a couple of things. 1. In your DeputyJailer90 - Profile, can you list state/city etc. This will help. Yeah sure, many of us will remember you is near Ralph, but not all. 2. Would you please and I will echo Ron's comment, provide us with all the info so that I can add your and your uncle's business to the Specialty Services page on the Cub Manual Server? Many of us are always looking for a GOOD QUALITY shop to rebuild our Generators and Starters. It is getting very difficult to find dependable people we can trust.

Ok, so here is the spiel

I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub. One of the other projects we have been working on and it will be a continuing effort is the How To Article Archive. This the the place to go to get all the quick links to some very good articles written by many members of the forum on solving some of the problems we encounter as we repair, maintain and up-grade our Cubs. Keep looking for this to grow.

Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.

IF you really want to get the skinny on all things Cub, might I suggest you get a copy of Ken Updike's Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet's :?:

. While you are at it Original Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet is Ken's latest addition to the series. Along with Guy Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide, these are three must have's in anyone's collection.

In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.

If all it needs is bearings, it isn't that hard to fix it yourself. They are standard bearings. You can probably buy both for not much more than the cost of shiping the alternator twice. Also, if you are shredding belts, the problem may not be internal to the alternator. Check pulley alignment. Also check both pulleys for any burrs or bent flanges.
